Fields of Wildflowers - abstract florals by North Carolina Painter Sue Scoggins

36x36 original oil on gallery wrapped canvas
SOLD

Can't get enough of these things.  After dropping someone off at the airport the other day, I did the round about onto I-40.  As I "rounded about" a huge field of wildflowers almost caused me to run off the road.  Planted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation Wildflower Program, these fields are all along the sides of the roads.  What a great gift to see!

Raleigh, NC

Finally have settled down in the happening city of downtown Raleigh, NC.  It has taken me a while to get my brush moving again.  The beach was a tad lonely, so city life seemed like a nice change.  New town.  New studio.  New vision.  Here is a new piece that is headed for The Little Art Gallery in Cameron Village in two weeks.  Seems fields of wildflowers have taken root. Can't get them out of my head!

Finished, I think! - a romantic floral seaside landscape by North Carolina painter, Sue Scoggins

Ok.  Call me crazy.  I began trying to work on this painting and turned on the most awesome music.
Began with Vivaldi's Concerto in A minor.  Now, seriously, in my years and years of HATING this piece...(I studied violin for 13 years) . It has now become by favorite...it is engrained in my psychi...repetition...over and over.

So, as I painted this piece, I played Vivaldi's concerto over and over as I stroked little pieces of paint over and over.  It was so cathartic!  After about 3 hours and 20 repetitions, I said, "Self.  Stop!"  Went on to whatever was playing on my playlist.  Ended up with "In a Sentimental Mood" by John Coltrane.

Hope you like it!

Wild Ones in the Midst- by North Carolina Painter, Sue Scoggins

SO, I've always got flowers on my mind. They just seem to be God's "pick-me-up".  These beautiful wildflowers bloom every year along the roadside at the base of the Emerald Isle bridge.  Not showing in the image is the surrounding coastal waters.  This 30x40 on gallery wrapped canvas is still a work in progress.    Will keep you posted.

MORE PEONIES - another floral by North Carolina Artist Sue Scoggins

Since I was already painting peonies I decided...why not three?  This one I love because the red ink underneath is so intense.  My brush was going wild....I suppose I have a lot of emotional energy these days.  (Maybe I should ride a bike.  My nails wouldn't get near as stained.  And I'd burn a few more calories.)

FOR A BABY'S ROOM - a floral from inks and oils by Susan Scoggins

Ok.  So my daughter brought in a freshly cut bouquet of peonies from her yard.  I watched as she fluffed up those blossoms in the glass and couldn't help but want to paint them.  I had promised her a square painting for our newest baby's room.  Here's for little miss Molly Kate.

Back to Blogging

Ok.  Here I am...back to blogging after taking about a year off...don't know what happened.  I suppose I had my hands wrapped around brushes instead of typing on my MAC.  This time I hope to do a better job.  I might even try to post a video or two.  With that said.....here goes my first post.

There are so many things to paint.  I can hardly stand it...but in the spring and fall the wildflowers  along the highways are magnificent! ( courtesy of the NCDOT Wildflower program)  Those images and colors get stuck in my head and just have to come out.
